The Asian Symposium on Medicinal Plants, Spices and other Natural Products (ASOMPS) is an important international event in the field of natural product sciences. It is a 57-year old symposium that has been held in Asia at different locations. The 15th ASOMPS was held in Manila, Philippines from 6 – 8 December 2017. Following its success the 16th ASOMPS will be held, after 41 years, in Sri Lanka in December 2018 running alongside with the 5th National Workshop on Lichens under overall theme: “Importance of endemic and lower plants for discovery of natural medicines and bioactive agents in times of climate change”.
This international symposium will be a multi-disciplinary event covering all the major areas of natural product chemistry. It will underscore current trends, successes and challenges, and cover over arching societally critical topics in the field of natural products. The objectives of this international symposium are to provide a platform for scientists from all over the world and from diverse bodies, to network and engender novel research ideas and to promote collaborations affirming our commitment to education and training for the advancement of natural product sciences. Further, the symposium will provide a launching pad for the next generation of young natural products chemists, so as to ensure that succession planning is in place.
- Ethnomedical uses, taxonomy, chemistry (including metabolomics), biology, and clinical aspects (safety, efficacy) of plant, marine, microbial, and animal-based natural products.
- Tropical lichens: progress in taxonomy, biogeography, and bioactivity research.
- Evidence-based approaches, grounded in indigenous knowledge, to combat diseases, including neglected and tropical ones, using natural products, important to healthcare practitioners, producers, and patients.
- Application of nano and advanced technologies to plant extracts, natural products, spices , and essential oils in the production of nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, and other value added products.
You are cordially invited to participate in the 16th ASOMPS and 5th National Workshop on Lichens on 12-14 December, 2018 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo, Sri Lanka.
